Sesame And Cucumber Salad

Today I am sharing with you all a very delicious Asian flavored Sesame Cucumber salad. Cucumber is very healthy a good source of Vitamin B. Cucumbers are 95 percent water, keeping the body hydrated while helping the body eliminate toxins. Cucumbers have most of the vitamins the body needs in a single day. Don't forget to leave the skin on because the skin contains a good amount of vitamin C, about 10 percent of the daily-recommended allowance. Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath. To avoid a morning hangover or headache; eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish many essential nutrients, reducing the intensity of both hangover and headache. Due to its low calorie and high water content, cucumber is an ideal diet for people who are looking for weight loss. I am sure you will find this salad healthy and delicious too. Give Sesame Cucumber Salad a try and let me know how you like it.

Oats Soup

What better way to gain the strength and energy to carry you through a hectic morning schedule than with a steaming bowl of freshly cooked oatmeal. It's the most perfect way to start a day.Oats, oat bran, and oatmeal contain a specific type of fiber known as beta-glucan. Since 1963, study after study has proven the beneficial effects of this special fiber on cholesterol levels.Studies show that in individuals with high cholesterol (above 220 mg/dl), consuming just 3 grams of soluble oat fiber per day (an amount found in one bowl of oatmeal) typically lowers total cholesterol by 8-23%. This is highly significant since each 1% drop in serum cholesterol translates to a 2% decrease in the risk of developing heart disease.Oats, via their high fiber content, are already known to help remove cholesterol from the digestive system that would otherwise end up in the bloodstream. Now, the latest research suggests they may have another cardio-protective mechanism. Antioxidant compounds unique to oats, called avenanthramides, help prevent free radicals from damaging LDL cholesterol, thus reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, suggests a study conducted at Tufts University and published in The Journal of Nutrition. In laboratory studies reported in Surgery, beta-glucan significantly enhanced the human immune system's response to bacterial infection. Beta-glucan not only helps neutrophils (the most abundant type of non-specific immune cell) navigate to the site of an infection more quickly, it also enhances their ability to eliminate the bacteria they find there.Starting your day with a bowl of oatmeal may boost your immune response in addition to your morning energy levels.Studies also show that beta-glucan has beneficial effects in diabetes as well. Type 2 diabetes patients given foods high in this type of oat fiber or given oatmeal or oat bran rich foods experienced much lower rises in blood sugar compared to those who were given white rice or bread. Starting out your day with a blood sugar stabilizing food such as oats may make it easier to keep blood sugar levels under control the rest of the day, especially when the rest of your day is also supported with nourishing fiber-rich foods. Today we are sharing with you a delicious healthy recipe that will boost your immune and keep you stay heart healthy. For those who are strictly on health issue do skip cheese.Oat soup is a yummy healthy dish can be enjoyed by all. So don't wait try a healthy yummy oats soup.

Hot And Sour Onion Soup

Delicious comfy hot soup in a lazy winter night has no substitutes. This hot and sour onion soup is not like the regular Chinese soup. I mix and match few flavors which  is the specialty of this hot and sour onion soup.. Instead of  vinegar I use lemon juice to make it sour and to make it hot I use pepper and chilly garlic sauce. If you want to keep the heat low you can skip the chilly garlic sauce but I suggest that use it once may be you can lower the quantity according to your taste. With all this the main  twist of the recipe is the roasted spice used.  I am sure if you are bored having the same hot and sour soup then it can be a change. Give it a try and let me know.

Pasta with Roasted Pepper Sauce

My friends who are with me for long they already know my love for pasta….in any form and shape. Today’s recipe is one which is bit similar to pasta omelets but the main twist is I use veggies and scrambled egg base which make this simple pasta bit unique and healthy. I slightly fried the veggies but if you are a weight watcher use raw vegetable, you can also skip butter used in the egg mixture and while you sprinkle the cheese on top don’t be so generous ( haha) . With this low fat variation the taste will differ a bit but still you can enjoy very delicious pasta. I am on a happy mood so generously used cheese and butter but you chose what is better for you and go for it and let me know how you liked it.

Pasta with Roasted Pepper Sauce

Ingredients
  • 2tbsp finely chopped carrot
  • 3 tbsp finely chopped red green and yellow bell pepper
  • 1tsp chopped garlic
  • 1tsp chopped ginger
  • 1tsp finely chopped fresh coriander
  • 1tsp finely chopped fresh mint
  • 1/8 tsp thyme
  • 5 to 6 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup boiled pasta
  • 2 to 3 tbsp roasted pepper sauce
  • 1 tsp tomato sauce ( optional )
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp butter
  • 5 tbsp shredded mozzarella
  • a pinch sugar
  • to taste salt and pepper
Cooking Directions
  1. Heat 1/2 tbsp oil in a skillet. Add the chopped ginger fry it till brown and little burnt then add chopped garlic fry a bit then add the veggies. Add little salt and pepper. Toss and keep aside and let it cool down.
  2. Whisk egg in a bowl now add the fried veggies, butter and fresh mint and coriander, thyme with a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well till bit fluffy. Swirl 1/2 tbsp olive oil in a frying pan. Then add the egg mixture. Watch that as the eggs start to cook. As soon as this starts happening, move the mixture around the pan with a spatula to scrape the cooked eggs from the bottom to the top of the mixture Put the heat low add the boiled paste. Mix tomato sauce if using with roasted pepper sauce and spread on the pasta. Now generously sprinkle cheese over it and cover and cook for few minutes till the cheese is melted.
  3. This is a very delicious full meal you can have it in your breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Scrambles flavored egg below above it saucy pasta topped with melting creamy cheese a yummy combo to make your day.You can also add bacon or shredded cooked chicken if you want to make it more delicious.

Hiyayakko/Japanese Cold Tofu

For this recipe I use ingredients according to availability like instead of silken tofu, bonito flakes ( dried fish flakes) and wasabi I use regular tofu, boiled fish flakes and mustard sauce, so this Hiyayakko may not be the actual representative of the traditional recipe but trust me this is super easy recipe, loaded with health benefit and taste superb. Tofu supplies full spectrum of protein, calcium, vitamin and minerals. As all soy product tofu contains isoflavones. Isoflavones helps to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, and also menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes and mood swings. On the other hand fish used in this recipe is low in fat, high in protein and an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids. Regular intake of fish can reduce the risk of various disease and disorders. Onions contain specific amino acids are called methionine and cystine and, among other things, they are very good at detoxifying your body from heavy metals. In fact, they are able to latch on to mercury, cadmium and lead and escort them out of the body. With all this healthy ingredients toady I prepare this delicious Hiyayakko. This dish needs minimum cooking, you just need to assemble and sit, relax and relish this wonderful healthy appetizer.

Hiyayakko/Japanese Cold Tofu

  • a big drop of wasabi/ mustard sauce
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onion
  • 1/4 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 pinch sugar (optional)

Tomato Cilantro Juice

Sharing with you another delicious detox juice. This is tomato cilantro juice. The main organic compound in the tomato is lycopene which have antioxidant properties. It helps in protecting the cells and organs from oxygen damage. It is also a great source of vitamins and minerals. One cup of tomato juice will give you 74 percent of your Vitamin C and 2 percent of Vitamin A in your daily requirement if recommended. These vitamins help the immune system by destroying the free radicals in your blood stream that damage cells. Other vitamins found in tomato juice are K, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, potassium, magnesium, iron and phosphorous. With this when we add cilantro it gives added taste and flavor. Cilantro is said to remove (chelate) heavy metals. People who have mercury fillings, as an example can find cilantro juice beneficial. As the old saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" so are this juices which help your body to stay fresh and healthy. But all the juices and the juice mixes may not be suitable for all so consult your dietician before taking them.

Tomato Coriander Juice

Stay Healthy

It is not always recipes that I want to share with my readers and friends, today I want to share with you a guest article from Julia Wisniewski where she point out a serious issue-Fibromyalgia and Gluten Allergy. I hope you will find something helpful from this guest article of Julia.

                                               Fibromyalgia and Gluten Allergy
As scientists are learning more and more about chronic pain syndromes, such as fibromyalgia,
they are discovering a link between some FM symptoms and gluten allergy.

To understand the link between gluten allergy and fibromyalgia we need to outline the symptoms
of each.

Fibromyalgia Symptoms

1. Chronic Pain- this is the most common and defining symptom of FM
2. Numbness or tingling in the extremities
3. Sleep Disturbances – that can lead to the next symptom, which is,
4. Fatigue

Gluten Allergy Symptoms

1. Abdominal pain - the gluten that you are sensitive irritates the bowels and causes pain
2. Fatigue – this is due to the fact that you aren’t absorbing all of your nutrients
3. Joint Pain
4. Weight Loss

Connection
There has been research that shows that diseases of the digestive system, such as irritable
bowel syndrome or the irritation that a gluten allergy produces in the digestive tract, lead to
muscoskeletal disorders. The study linked certain digestive conditions to rheumatic diseases. All of these conditions are linked to each other, and this study proves that people with fibromyalgia should be screened for gluten allergy or even intolerance.

Conclusion
If you are experiencing some or all of these symptoms, you should talk with your doctor about
being tested for a gluten sensitivity or even Celiac Disease. Talk with her or him about slowly
taking gluten out of your diet. Keep a journal about how you feel each day without (or less)
gluten to see if the switch is helping your quality of life. If a gluten-free diet turns out to be the right choice for your lifestyle, try a gluten free bread machine or recipes for comfort foods that you can still enjoy on a restricted diet.

Nutritious Entertaining: Make a healthy grocery list for success

When you are preparing for the Thanks giving party and all the celebration coming up  one after another in the next month, it is very hard to make a healthy grocery list for perfect meal. So today I am not sharing with you any recipes but a guest article which will be a great help for you all. This guest article is from my friend Melissa C. I think you all will enjoy the read and find helpful tips for perfect delicious and healthy meal.

It’s easy to get trapped in the idea that healthful entertaining is too much work. If you plan a healthy grocery list beforehand, there’s no reason your next get together won’t be a rousing success. When you’re in control of the menu, you can make the right choices to ensure every course stays healthy.

Good-for-you appetizers

Many hosts start the meal out on an unhealthy foot and only get worse from there. When you plan in advance, you can avoid this pitfall. Stick to low-calorie and high-flavor dishes, like spiced shrimp or crab ceviche, and your guests will be satisfied but not stuffed before the main event. You can also choose fresh and seasonal vegetables as an easy alternative if you want to cut down on preparation time.

A healthy main course

The main course is the biggest part of the meal, so it’s essential that you choose a healthy dish. You can find some inspiration from the menu at your favorite health-oriented restaurant, or you can check pick out a dish from Eating Well. Don’t be afraid to make two dishes if you’re hosting a large group of people. That way, people can choose the option that suits their tastes better. You should also consider portion size when plating to make sure you aren’t giving your guests too much of a good thing

Delightful, guilt-free desserts

The dessert course is another place where health can be thrown out the window for taste, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Fresh fruit is always a good option for the time and nutrition conscious host. It’s easy to prepare, it contains all kinds of nutrients, and it tastes wonderful. If you’re looking for something a bit more complex, try out a lightened up version of your favorite dish. It doesn’t take much to make a healthy lemon cake or some healthful oatmeal cookies. Dessert is your chance to show off your skills at making delicious treats that are still good for you.

After you’ve planned out the perfect meal, it’s time to put together your list and make a trip to the store. Before you head out, go through the big night in your mind and think about how the cooking and entertaining is going to go. If you don’t see any issues with timing, then you’ll be ready to make your next night of healthy entertaining a success.

Wishing you all A Very Happy Thanksgiving!
