Nutritious Entertaining: Make a healthy grocery list for success

When you are preparing for the Thanks giving party and all the celebration coming up  one after another in the next month, it is very hard to make a healthy grocery list for perfect meal. So today I am not sharing with you any recipes but a guest article which will be a great help for you all. This guest article is from my friend Melissa C. I think you all will enjoy the read and find helpful tips for perfect delicious and healthy meal.

It’s easy to get trapped in the idea that healthful entertaining is too much work. If you plan a healthy grocery list beforehand, there’s no reason your next get together won’t be a rousing success. When you’re in control of the menu, you can make the right choices to ensure every course stays healthy.

Good-for-you appetizers

Many hosts start the meal out on an unhealthy foot and only get worse from there. When you plan in advance, you can avoid this pitfall. Stick to low-calorie and high-flavor dishes, like spiced shrimp or crab ceviche, and your guests will be satisfied but not stuffed before the main event. You can also choose fresh and seasonal vegetables as an easy alternative if you want to cut down on preparation time.

A healthy main course

The main course is the biggest part of the meal, so it’s essential that you choose a healthy dish. You can find some inspiration from the menu at your favorite health-oriented restaurant, or you can check pick out a dish from Eating Well. Don’t be afraid to make two dishes if you’re hosting a large group of people. That way, people can choose the option that suits their tastes better. You should also consider portion size when plating to make sure you aren’t giving your guests too much of a good thing

Delightful, guilt-free desserts

The dessert course is another place where health can be thrown out the window for taste, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Fresh fruit is always a good option for the time and nutrition conscious host. It’s easy to prepare, it contains all kinds of nutrients, and it tastes wonderful. If you’re looking for something a bit more complex, try out a lightened up version of your favorite dish. It doesn’t take much to make a healthy lemon cake or some healthful oatmeal cookies. Dessert is your chance to show off your skills at making delicious treats that are still good for you.

After you’ve planned out the perfect meal, it’s time to put together your list and make a trip to the store. Before you head out, go through the big night in your mind and think about how the cooking and entertaining is going to go. If you don’t see any issues with timing, then you’ll be ready to make your next night of healthy entertaining a success.

Wishing you all A Very Happy Thanksgiving!

Most Popular Foods During Parties

A lovely guest post from a friend and I hope you all will like it.
Modern times have allowed people now to be more daring and non-conventional when it comes to parties, including the foods that are served during the occasion. With the fast rise in technology today, lifestyle of people also goes with it. This influences the choices of these couples. And as much as fashion for the bridal gown changes, well so as the food in the party menu. Let us see the current trends on the foods seen on party receptions.

Food Stations
Compared to previous times that guests were stuck in the tables waiting to be served, people nowadays tend to become easily bored. Thus, stations of food are gaining more popularity. This way, guests won’t be bored as they are stuck in their seats for the rest of the party program.
With the financial crisis we experience today, couples can enjoy the trend yet find it very affordable with sushi bars. Also, guests who are health buffs will definitely enjoy them. Sushi stations can be served with rolls of sushi, oysters, shrimps, crabs and avocado salad. But then, this particular food preparation can not be for everyone in the guest list. Thus, as much as sushi bars are still trending these days, couples usually combine them with other variants of food such as Cuban and Jewish cuisines.

The all-time mashed potato martini bar is never outdated, as comfort food will never be out of style. Nevertheless, such food stations can be modified to give it a more modern touch. Add more toppings to the mashed potatoes, and serve them in stylish, colored and fancy martini glasses.

Soup bars is preferable for parties that fall on winter and fall. Consider serving soups that guests would normally not have as everyday food. Tell your party caterer to make sure the soup is thick, rich and heavy.
Carving stations are more directed towards modern carving options. Instead of conventional carvings, why not go for Australian lamb hams and prime ribs for a meat carving station.
A crepe station is also suitable for parties. The guests will surely enjoy as they watch their crepe being made. Choices of crepes can range from fruits, chocolates, vegetables, cheeses and meat. The crepe station also creates a fun and light atmosphere.

Cultural Inspirations
For bride and grooms with different nationalities, incorporating their ethnic backgrounds may help the party menu to be unique and exceptional. Fusing two different cultures can be manifested in the food that will be served. Talk to the catering company for this option.

Traditional and Classic Entrees
For traditional party foods, it may be best to choose the food that is in season – of course the cake will always be present in every occasion. A modern approach to cakes today is the edible cake images. Apart from the taste, presentation is vital. It is also a trend for couples to combine serving ware presentation with the food, to add up to the elegance and sophistication. Try asking the catering company if they can work on a party menu that is at par with your party theme. Also, it is to be remembered that for food entrees, oftentimes, less is more. Bite-size entrees are suggested and avoid onions and blue cheese, as they can affect the guests’ breath.

BE HEALTHY

Do you know Health-associated infections (HAIs) are a global crisis affecting both patients and healthcare workers? You may have seen that the government recently released its annual report on the quality of health care Americans receive. While there have been some improvements, the news was not positive: hospitals still have work to do to put an end to the ongoing, but very solvable, problem of patients acquiring life-threatening infections in hospitals.
Patients, their caregivers, and health care professionals need to educate themselves on the dangers and what can be done to protect people from getting sick while in the very place they went in order to get well.
Financially, HAIs represent an estimated annual impact of $6.7 billion to healthcare facilities, but the human cost is even higher. A Centers for Disease Control (CDC) report published in March-April 2007 estimated the number of U.S. deaths from healthcare asociated infections in 2002 at 98,987. However, it is likely the number is even higher because, as the authors of the study point out, “No single source of nationally representative data on HAIs is currently available. 1
According to the World Health Organization, “At any given time, 1.4 million people worldwide are estimated to be suffering from an infection acquired in a health facility. The risk of acquiring healthcare-associated infections in developing countries is 2-20 times higher than in developed countries.
The fight against preventable healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) cannot be won by a single individual, company or healthcare facility. Kimberly-Clark is proud to work with many partners and organizations in helping to create awareness of the devastating effect of HAIs.
To help achieve that, Kimblery-Clark Healthcare has put together a website called "Not on My Watch" at www.haiwatch.com to educate patients and health care professionals. Their goal is to eliminate these preventable illnesses and their often tragic consequences.

Visit ”Not on My Watch” and make world a better place to live a happy healthy life.

Food for Your Heart – Food for Life

Today let me introduce Shannon Wills who have written a wonderful post for all the visitors, friends, followers of Tips For Delicious And Healthy Cooking. My father died due to severe heart attack 10years back so I know only best doctors and good medicine can’t help to cure heart disease you have to look after all parts of your life to keep your heart healthy. This article will inform you how to keep and maintain a healthy heart.Take a look-
It’s the most important organ in our body in that life stops when it does, so why are we not paying more attention to our heart? The leading cause of death in the world is heart disease, yet we fail to look after our hearts as well as we should. We abuse it in its prime, and when it starts to show signs of disrepair and disease, we panic and try to make amends. Instead of waiting till it’s too late, we need to nurture our hearts with food that is healthy, food that will sustain it, and food that will give it a new lease of life even as it starts to age. This includes:
What you eat: We are what we eat; so when you eat junk, your body becomes junk as well. If you care about your heart, you must include in your diet more colorful fruits and green, leafy vegetables, wholegrain items, healthy fats like almonds and other nuts, and cold water fish and other sources of Omega 3 fatty acids like salmon and tuna. Reduce the amount of salt and sugar in your food, and cut down items that are loaded with saturated fat and cholesterol – all fried items are included in this list. Limit carbohydrates to those that digest slowly and do not make your blood sugar fluctuate wildly; and eat limited portions in six meals spaced throughout the day. The wrong kind of food gives rise to cholesterol which clogs your arteries and limits the blood supply to your heart.

What you do:If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, you’re feeding your heart the wrong message. Your body becomes obese and your heart has to work harder to sustain its bulk. With no exercise whatsoever, your heart becomes lazy, so even the smallest amount of movement becomes a chore that pushes your heart to the limit. This gives rise to heart disease and other associated ills like diabetes and strokes. So get at least half an hour of exercise every day and lead a more active life if you want to protect your heart.

How you live:And finally, if you want to save your heart, you must lead a stress-free life. The biggest cause of heart disease is stress, so find ways to relax and rejuvenate yourself even if your job or other aspects of your life stress you out. Don’t worry about the things you cannot control, and those that you can, get them done with the least amount of stress.

A vase that is broken can be repaired, but the cracks still show and it is never as strong as it was before; so too, if you let your heart deteriorate and slip into a state of disrepair, it’s never going to be as healthy as it was. Prevention is the best medicine when it comes to heart health, so start today with the right combination of exercise, diet and a stress-free life.
